Next Energy Fund LP · Delaware

A disciplined view of energy.

Next Energy Fund LP is a Delaware limited partnership investing in the energy sector. Energy attracts more narrative than almost any other market. We are interested in what is underneath it — the resource, the contract, the counterparty, and the route out.

Principles

Three things that do not change with the cycle

01

Fundamentals before narrative

Every energy cycle arrives with a story attached, and the story is usually the most expensive part of the price. We underwrite the asset, the offtake and the counterparty first. A thesis has to survive the numbers rather than stand in for them.

02

Structure is protection

Most of a return is decided at entry and defended by structure. Security, seniority, covenants, information rights and a credible path to exit are not paperwork to be tidied after agreeing a headline — they are the terms that determine what the headline is actually worth.

03

Patience is a position

Capital that must be deployed to a calendar buys badly, and energy punishes that more than most sectors. Holding is a decision we are willing to make and to defend. We would rather explain why we did nothing than why we did something at the wrong price.

How we engage

We review opportunities introduced by operators, advisers and counterparties who know the asset. A first conversation is short and specific: what the asset is, who controls it, what contracts sit on it, and what the seller or sponsor actually needs. If those four answers are clear, the rest of the process is quick. If they are not, we will say so early rather than run a process that cannot conclude.
